Locating and arriving to an unfamiliar destination in a foreign country without knowing the language is stressful. Joachim met us at the airport holding a welcome placard during a snowstorm. Our stay was welcoming and carefree from the beginning. By providing maps and tourist opportunities and directions to markets and shops, Joachim ensured we focussed more on our enjoyment, rather than getting lost. Our host graciously prepared a wonderful cuisine one night and brought us to his favorite social spot. It was exactly what we were looking for. The house is clean and organized and we felt welcome in all shared areas. Our privacy was respected, which was appreciated. The location of the house is perfect. It is located on a quiet side street off of a busy thoroughfare, making it easy to find and accessible to the centre of town. It is walking distance away from all tourist hotspots (from five to ten blocks away). The house is located on a steep hill (all of Tromsø is) which made it somewhat treacherous on foot in the snow. We found Norway, in general, to be more expensive than we expected, and the available time of alcohol sale is somewhat restricted, so beware.
