Tromsø has been northern Norway’s capital for sealing, and the city was established by the end of the 19th century as a gateway to the Arctic.

It was central as a base for many polar expeditions. The Polar Museum is the caretaker and the storyteller of this tradition.

At the Polar Museum you will meet men, women, ships and materials essential for the life in the Arctic and the Arctic Ocean.

How to get there: See map for the walking street. Continue north, to the end of the street and pass the main road. Then take the next road to the left.
